A series of sketches inspired by the HuB design competition. I will be entering the competition using this blog to help me document my progress throughout the design of a downtown transit hub with node transit stations. This transit system is a proposal for Charleston, SC.

Hi, my name is Eric D. Gerding. I am a graduate student of architectural design at Ball State University's College of Architecture and Planning in good old Muncie, Indiana. I have created this blog to help me document my progression through a design competition called The HuB.
I will be designing a transit hub for a light rail system in Charleston, South Carolina that will connect the heart of the Charleston peninsula with the outer reaches of the city.

This is a current version of what I think the HuB should do. Protect and comfort its users by covering them with an everchanging translucent webbing that diffuses light and is supported by a water harvesting aqueduct.
This sketch begins to color code the context, in relation to the overall site plan. the surrounding structures, the site proportions and the intended use all suggest that the building be linear, possibly borrowing from the gabled forms seen in blue to the east of the site (visitors center and children's museum).
